Facial skin care
products 101
Sometimes getting into the habits of
having daily skin routines can be difficult, especially if
you’ve never had one in the past. The amount of different
facial skin care products available today can be somewhat
overwhelming. There are products for all uses such as:
cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliating, toning and clarifying. If
you want to get started on a facial skin care routine then here
are some tips about some of the different types of treatments
out there.
Cleansers
Cleansers are usually used to remove
make-up dirt and oil, and also cleanse your pores. In the world
of facial skin care products they work much better than just
your normal bar of soap. Normal soaps can be harsh on your skin
and even cause allergic reactions due to their fragrances and
other ingredients that might dry out your skin. Cleansers
designed specifically for your face are a much better choice.
They have different choices that cater to every ones skin type,
whether it is sensitive or dry and everything in between. The
first and most important thing to make sure of when shopping
for facial cleansers is to make sure you are picking one that
is suitable for your skin type.
Toners
Toners are products that minimize your
pores. You usually use it after cleansing and before
moisturizing and is, in most, cases applied with some form of
cotton ball or pad. The three main types of toners available
are: fresheners, skin tonics and astringents. Fresheners are
the mildest type and are best suitable for sensitive skin,
normal/combination skin respond best to the skin tonics, and
extremely oily skin is best suitable with
astringents.
Moisturizers
When trying to take care of dry facial skin a
moisturizer is the best products to use. Moisturizers are
designed to re-hydrate the skin and smooth out your complexion.
They are great to use on sensitive skin and overall improve the
appearance of your skin. They can be purchased at any drug
store or other over-the-counter retailers. You should apply
your moisturizer twice daily. Once when you wake up in the
morning and once again before you go to bed.
Exfoliates
Exfoliates are facial skin care products that
use some form of micro-beads that scrub away old skin cells and
dirt from the outer layer of your skin. You can either buy
exfoliates from a store or get a recipe and make one in your
own home. Purchased scrubs usually contain micro-beads, almond
shells or pumice. Most recipes that you make at home use common
items such as sugar, salt, lemon and grapefruit and sometimes
even contain certain essential oils such as lavender or rose.
You want to avoid exfoliating more than once a week if you tend
to have oily skin, twice a week if you have normal/combination
skin, and no more than three time times a week if you have
extremely oily skin.
